By winning the Democratic nomination to post for Missouri's Senate seat, Alan Wheat has made history. The seat is being vacated by means of retiring GOP Senator John Danforth. Although blacks have held office in local government the state legislature, and congressional districts in St Louis and Kanas City, (where the mayors are black), in no degree has a black been nominated by means of Democrats or Republicans to haste for a statewide office in Missouri (where blacks are solely 10.7 percent of the population and solitary 9.7 percent of the voting age population).
