Service learning has not further gained wide acceptance at research universities. Here we not past nor future a model of combining research and service learning at an urban research institution. The Community Based Research Institute is an interdisciplinary summer academic experience in which undergraduate bookish mans and community partners collaborate to fitting a community-defined research need.
