Abstract
Despite convincing literature to the contrary, the notions of `transition shock' and the `storm and stress' of adolescence persist in views upon primary-secondary school transfer. This paper reports forward the `voices' of some Australian scholars as they have anticipated and experienced primary-secondary transfer. It plants these findings in a broader consideration of transition and reports the views of young adolescents. It hints that although transfer is an important part of the transition proces the adaptation phase' during which scholars are adjusting to secondary educate may be the more critical.
